The Cambridge Analytica research firm acquired personal data from up to 50 million Facebook users, of which 270,000 users voluntarily gave their information when they signed up for the personality test application, according to New York Times and The Observer reports.
This information was used as part of the work in President Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016. Although Facebook claims that Cambridge Analytica and its associates broke the rules in this data, this was not a violation because the same users allowed access to their accounts. Facebook.
They may also request to see the status of their relationship, educational history, religious and political beliefs, among many other data points. So it would be convenient to review the applications we have on our Facebook to remove access to our information.
Go to the configuration page of the Facebook application, then, in the desktop interface you must click on the down arrow in the upper right corner and select Settings and select Applications in the menu.
In the applications page, you will see all the applications in which you signed in to Facebook and select Settings, click on Account settings, then Applications, click on Facebook and remove third-party applications that you no longer use when you pass the mouse on the icon and click on “X”.
You can also adjust the amount of information you deliver to an application by clicking the Edit button.
You can limit the permissions of an application without revoking it completely. Click on the Edit button (pencil icon), next to the Delete button, to see the individual settings of each application, where you can see all the data visible to the application. You can revoke specific permissions by deselecting the check mark next to each data point.
Revocking those permissions does not mean that you have deleted that data from the servers of the third-party application.
It is possible that third-party applications have already stored data in you, and you should contact the developer of the application to remove that information.
In the lower right corner of the configuration window, click Report application, then select I want to send my own message to the developer. There, you can request that they delete any information they have stored. However, it is not a guarantee that they will respect your request. You should check the application’s privacy policy to see more details about how that application is using your data.
In the same row of links in lowercase letters next to the application of reports, click on the privacy policy of the application, which will take you to the website of the application. Immediately, search (command + F) for “Facebook” or “social networks” to go directly to the section that covers integration with social networks.
You could also check Apps that others use that is near the bottom of the page, below the icons of the third-party application. Click on Edit to control what your friends on Facebook can bring when they enable third-party applications and remove personal information that you do not want to share.
Your friends may share your religious and political views or what interests you, without your knowledge (or theirs).
If you want to download a copy of all your data, it is also an option, in this case you would download all your Facebook data, including publications, photos, videos, messages, chats and its “about” section, accessing Settings and General, making Click on Download a copy of your information.
The best thing is: Check the permissions of the applications, not only on Facebook, but on all social networking sites, and look closely at what information allows third-party applications to see.
Facebook’s privacy policy changes from time to time (as former Facebook executive Alex Stamos pointed out in deleted tweets), so check the third-party application settings regularly to make sure you’re only sharing information about what’s going on. what do you want.
